22 April 2020 The new Cuvée has been created to celebrate the 70 years of the foundation of the historical winery of Valdobbiadene. The Giuliano's dream of Prosecco pioneer It was 1949 when Giuliano Bortolomiol, a winemaker from Valdobbiadene, founded the winery bearing his name. He was carrying the legacy of his family who, at least since the mid-18th century, has grown vines in the land of Valdobbiadene. Giuliano’s dream was to change the history of Prosecco, elevating its quality, reputation and prestige. In that exquisitely local wine, Giuliano has seen, before anybody else, a potential star of the national winemaking scene. At present, the dream of the «Prosecco pioneer» has turned into a worldwide success, perhaps even beyond Giuliano’s expectations. But his values and the dream of a wine that does not easily compromise have been passed onto his daughters, Maria Elena, Elvira, Luisa and Giuliana, all first in line together with their mother Ottavia in developing and promoting Prosecco and its territory, the area of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene. The 70th Anniversary of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG To celebrate Giuliano and his “revolution”, Bortolomiol has created the new 70th Anniversary Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG: a limited edition sparkling wine, only produced in 8000 bottles. 70th Anniversary is made with grapes from a single vineyard in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene, which enjoys a perfect and exceptional sun exposure. Processed as a Brut Nature, with a sugar residue equivalent to 3g/l of sugar, this enhances the extreme characteristics of a territory that is not simple to cultivate, and where work in the vineyard is necessarily done by hand. A Valdobbiadene characterized by fine and elegant floral notes that recall jasmine and locust, with fruity hints of green apple. Its own palpable complexity allows it to perfectly pair with wild herb risotto as well as seasonal seafood. «We want to celebrate this important milestone by opening the first bottle of this collection together with our dearest friends » says Elvira Bortolomiol, the winery’s vice-president, «with this sparkling wine, we want to honour our father Giuliano, who has been the first to pave the way that we needed to follow. Over the years, we have consolidated his teachings, looking altogether towards an increasingly sustainable future». To celebrate this extraordinary label, Bortolomiol has organized a series of events, which have stared on the last edition of Vinitaly and continued during the first international visit of artists to the Parco della Filandetta, at the heart of Valdobbiadene, where the family has renovated a former spinning mill that dates back to the early 1900s.
