Dolcetto o Scherzetto? A Piedmontese Halloween Twist

21 October 2025

This time of year, children in the US go door to door shouting "Trick or Treat!" — a playful tradition that, in Italian, becomes "Dolcetto o Scherzetto?"

But here in Piedmont, Dolcetto means something much more than just “something sweet.”
It’s the name of one of our most beloved native grape varieties — and of a wine that holds a special place in the Ceretto family history.

From the beautiful, historic vineyards Rossana nestled in the hills above Alba, we produce a Dolcetto that is both vibrant and deeply rooted in tradition. This area has long been considered one of the most vocated for the grape, thanks to its unique soils and exposure. Selected by Riccardo Ceretto over 70 years ago, it produces one of the longest-running family labels. Our vines here are old, wise, and generous — and the result is a wine that’s fresh, fruit-forward, and unmistakably Piedmontese.

So this Halloween, whether you're handing out candy or opening a bottle by candlelight, we invite you to raise a glass with a smile and ask: Dolcetto... o scherzetto?

Why not both?
