Il Tesoro Nascosto della Toscana: Chianti Rufina

Chianti Rufina is one of the smallest sub-areas of the Chianti DOCG. Located on the hills east of Florence, it includes the municipalities of Pelago, Londa, Dicomano, Pontassieve and Rùfina, and sits at 400 meters above sea level on the lower slopes of the Apennines. The altitude favors diurnal temperature variation between day and night, ensuring the preservation of the natural aromas and acids in the fruit: this yields excellent balance between sweet ripe fruit and high acidity. According to the disciplinary, Chianti Rufina must contain at least 70% Sangiovese grapes, while 10% can be white-berried grapes. In fact, varieties such as Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia del Chianti, Canaiolo and Colorino are also grown in this area

    Castello di Nipozzano

History, tradition and quality have always been the foundations of the Frescobaldi Family.

Castello di Nipozzano is located in the heart of Chianti Rufina and was built around the year 1000 to defend the city of Florence. It is owned by the historic and prestigious Frescobaldi Family: renowned producers of high-quality wine from their various estates located in the splendid Tuscany. According to some ancient written documents, the famed sculptor Donatello, who lived between 1386 and 1466, enjoyed and bought wines of the Castello.

Entering the threshold of Castello di Nipozzano means discovering and experiencing the most authentic Tuscany, reaching a village where time seems to have stopped, visiting the historic cellars and admiring the surrounding landscape clothed in lush vineyards and olive groves.

Castello di Nipozzano is famous for producing Mormoreto with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes from vineyards planted in the mid-19th century by an ancestor of the Frescobaldi family. Highly appreciated worldwide, this wine was born with the 1983 vintage from vineyards planted 150 years ago.

Obviously, another important label is Chianti Rufina, the territory’s outstanding and symbolic wine that goes perfectly with local dishes, particularly with the famous Fiorentina steak.

  • Day 1: Lunch

Private and exclusive tours are followed by an aperitif and lunch with wine tasting surrounded by the vineyards and heated by the fireplaces inside the Castello. Taste the fruits of Castello di Nipozzano’s garden and the best local products.
