Chianti Rufina is one of the smallest sub-areas of the Chianti DOCG. Located on the hills east of Florence, it includes the municipalities of Pelago, Londa, Dicomano, Pontassieve and Rùfina, and sits at 400 meters above sea level on the lower slopes of the Apennines. The altitude favors diurnal temperature variation between day and night, ensuring the preservation of the natural aromas and acids in the fruit: this yields excellent balance between sweet ripe fruit and high acidity. According to the disciplinary, Chianti Rufina must contain at least 70% Sangiovese grapes, while 10% can be white-berried grapes. In fact, varieties such as Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia del Chianti, Canaiolo and Colorino are also grown in this area
