LVNAE Proudly Presents the New Winery

04 July 2023

A journey through wine, design and imagination

LVNAE inaugurates the new winery, built to emphasize the bond between land and man as well as embody the commitment of a winery that has been dedicated to the pursuit of high-quality winemaking for more than 60 years.

LVNAE has been a pioneer in vinifying traditional grape varieties and promoting Vermentino di Colli di Luni.

The winery is located on the alluvial plain in the town of Luni, nestled between the coasts of the Ligurian Sea and the Roman amphitheater ruins of Luni, where the last foothills of the Apuan Alps meet. The building is a single inclined structure that is partially covered by a lush layer of grass. The entrance – not coincidentally – requires visitors to walk through the surrounding vineyard, planted with the most important native varieties of Colli di Luni.

“Cultivating vineyards means knowing how to listen to the rhythm of nature and understanding the value of time. Building a new winery, a new home for our business, our family, and our agricultural community, required the same kind of attention and holds the same significance”, says Diego Bosoni, the driving force behind the project.

The buildings rising above the ground surround a central square, from which all of the internal and underground spaces originate: the barrel cellar, the aging room as well as the spaces reserved for hospitality and tasting experiences. The structures above and underground are connected by a deep, inclined tunnel that allows visitors to go from a vibrant nature located above to an underground world that also tells the story of LVNAE.

Designed to be sustainable, the winery produces most of the energy it needs thanks to a geothermal and photovoltaic system. A layer of grass covers the external façade, helping maintain constant temperature as naturally as possible. Moreover, there are tanks used to collect rainwater.

The guiding principle behind this project is to combine functionality and aesthetics, workspaces and design, nature and high-quality work. “We wanted the term ‘useful’ to not be an idea that separates art from the real world” the wine producer explains. This is the criteria behind the creation of paths with organic visions and that gradually unveil themselves. Emphasis was placed on the uniqueness of every compositional element and a creative approach was reserved in each detail. The project aimed to bridge the gap between common spaces and workstations, ennobling the latter, “knowing that beauty lies in quality, and aesthetics is an ethic that directly affects the well-being of the people who work in the winery” Bosoni concludes.

The final result are individual spaces that provide an experience: areas that are similar to works of art, featuring installations, lighting, furnishings, and interior architectural elements. Every operation was “specifically” designed for each single space. “The common thread we followed was the pursuit of nature in the spaces, colors and biomorphic resemblance” says Andrea del Sere, the designer behind the project (carried out by the architects from AT Studio).

From the tunnel that descends underground and reveals the earth along the glass opening, an aging room with columns made up of trees opens up: a concrete example of the attempt to reduce the gap between architectural volumes and open spaces.

Today, LVNAE’s winery is space to explore and experience.

Starting this July, visitors can book guided tours and experiences to personally enjoy the thrilling emotion from the vineyard to the glass: a journey through the various nuances of Vermentino made by the Bosoni family
