Located in southern Piedmont, deeper into the foothills of the Maritime Alps, Monferrato is a nature-lover’s dream.

Monferrato Territory

Rolling hills of patchwork vineyards divide terroirs and ancient villages. Monferrato’s beauty is in its hilltop towns, castles, Romanesque churches, farms, ciabots, and UNESCO World Heritage underground cellars. Spend the day discovering the wineries that are pioneers of developing the world-renown Barbera wine and the mouthwatering cuisine that makes Piedmont a gastronomic capital of Italy.

  • Day 1: Morning

Private Guided Winery Tour at Coppo

Since its foundation in 1892 in Canelli, the Coppo winery has remained in the family for over 120 years, making it one of the oldest family-run wineries in all of Italy.

Coppo’s wines are characterized by elegance, finesse, and longevity. Their production centers on Barbera, Nizza, Traditional Method sparkling wines, Chardonnay and Moscato d’Asti. In the early 1980s, the Coppo brothers were among the first in the territory to demonstrate the elegance, character, and aging potential of the Barbera grape. The winery’s goal is to guarantee maximum respect for the grape varieties and the environment in all stages of their production.

During your visit you will explore the galleries and tunnels recently renamed the “Underground Cathedrals” and are a UNESCO World Heritage for their spectacular beauty and historical importance. You will discover the historical reasons for which Canelli is indisputably recognized throughout the world as the capital of Italian sparkling wine, and learn how Coppo contributed to Barbera’s renaissance in the wine world.

The tour will end with a private tasting of four Coppo premium wines in their private tasting rooms.

Private Guided Winery Tour at Michele Chiarlo

Michele Chiarlo founded his winery in 1956 with one clear vision: acquire the best crus in Piedmont to make wines that express the essence of the territory.

Located in Calamandrana in Monferrato, Michele Chiarlo makes wine from some of Piedmont’s most prestigious crus: Cannubi and Cerequio in Barolo, Asili and Faset in Barbaresco, La Court in Monferrato, and Rovereto in Gavi. They solely make native Piedmont wines from their estate vineyards.

Certified by VIVA Sustainable Wine in 2011, Michele Chiarlo follows integrated and sustainable agricultural practices, closely monitoring their environmental impact at all stages of production.

The tour will begin with a guided visit through the winery and includes entry to the art exhibition which is hosted in the winery. At the end of the tour, there will be a tasting of the four wines that have come to symbolize Michele Chiarlo. The tasting will take place in their private tasting room.
