Discover a wine destination of unparalled beauty, noble history and Italy’s top sparkling wine.

Franciacorta territory

Hillside vineyards, small historical villages, Medieval towers, castles, monasteries, Renaissance palaces and luxury villas. This is Franciacorta, a region rich in noble history. However, Franciacorta is also nature: the natural reserve of Torbiere del Sebino is a wetland of international prominence. Man-made beauty collides with natural beauty .

It is also Italy’s most famous sparkling wine production area. Franciacorta DOCG wine is Italy’s answer to Champagne.

The Franciacorta method for sparkling wine follows the principles of the Traditional Method, refermenting the wine in the bottle to create bubbles. It was the first Italian Traditional Method sparkling wine to gain DOCG status in Italy, in 1995, and has become an international heavyweight of sparkling wine. The wine is fruity, mineral, fresh, fine, harmonious and perfect for an aperitif or to drink with Italian cheese or fish; if you are a bubble lover you’ll drink it during the whole meal!

  • Day 1: Morning

Shared Guided Winery Tour at Berlucchi

Berlucchi is the pioneering winery of Franciacorta wine. They were the first to create a sparkling wine in the area, transforming a thousand- year-old local wine heritage into a world-class wine destination. The 17th-century underground cellar, housed underneath the historic Palazzo Lanza, maintain the right environment for riddling, and the mineral-rich moraine soils are perfect for growing pinot varieties.

Palazzo Lana was Guido Berlucchi’s home and the ancient seat of the Lana de’ Terzi noble family, his ancestors. It’s elegant salons and sitting rooms have hosted royalty and other illustrious guests as an iconic symbol of the Franciacorta business world. Berlucchi winery was founded in 1955 and released their first limited-production of 3000 bottles of Pinot di Franciacorta in 1961 to great success.

This pivotal year continues to be commemorated by the winery’s ’61 label. The first 1961 bottle is displayed in the cavernous underground cellar, where thousands of visitors are greeted each year for tours and tastings. This tour begins in the historic cellars and ends with a guided tasting of Berlucchi Franciacorta wine paired with artisanal grissini and Grana Padano cheese.
