The history of Villa Sparina goes back to the 1700s when it was part of a grand colonial complex immersed in the vineyards of Monterotondo in Piedmont, the heart of Gavi territory.

Today, it is the site of the Villa Sparina winery, founded in the 1970s by the Moccagatta family. The estate is comprised of one hundred hectares (247 acres) of private land, sixty of which are vineyards surrounded by woods, refreshed by the Ligurian breeze and kissed by the sun. The majority of the vineyards are cultivated in Monterotondo.

The vines here are primarily the most important local grape variety cortese, which makes the white wine Gavi DOCG del Comune di Gavi — also known simply as “Gavi”. The soul and prestige of Villa Sparina can be found in their Monterotondo label. This cru wine represents the highest quality of Villa Sparina production, a white wine made with 100% cortese grapes grown in a 1945-era vineyard. It displays savoriness, minerality, and incredible longevity. Their range of wines also includes sparkling wines and the Barbera “Rivalta”, a singlevineyard label obtained from nine hectares (22 acres) of vineyards.

In Villa Sparina, visitors can enjoy fine dining at La Gallina Restaurant where the cuisine balances creativity and southern Piedmontese culinary traditions. Villa Sparina also houses the four-star L’Ostelliere, where guests can have a unique and unforgettable stay in Piedmont.
