Today located in Montecchio, Umbria, Falesco was founded in 1979 by brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella. The original structure of the winery was built in Lazio between Montefiascone and Lake Bolsena.

Here they cultivate one hundred hectares (247 acres) of roscetto, aleatico, trebbiano, and malvasia and international varieties like merlot, syrah, and viognier in the volcanic, partly-sedimentary soils. They opened their new cellar in Montecchio, just south of Orvieto, in 2004. A modern structure of ten thousand square meters, it is equipped with the newest technology in winemaking and surrounded by two hundred and sixty hectares of merlot, cabernet, sangiovese, verdicchio, and vermentino vineyards.

Falesco’s philosophy leads them to select land that offers ideal soil and climate conditions for specific grape varieties and to regularly study the terroir to understand its potential. Their winemaking approach adopts scientific methods and advanced techniques in the belief that experimentation, innovation, and wine culture are key to revitalizing the winemaking traditions of Italy.

Their label Montiano, a red Lazio IGT, is the flagship wine and the most important cru of the estate. This 100% merlot has a wonderful, deep, ruby red color and a wide range of aromas with notes of vanilla, red berries, layers of jam, and sweet spices. In the mouth, Montiano has a full, aristocratic roundness and softness that is typical of Merlot, with elegant, pleasing, lingering flavors.
