Altesino, located in the eastern hills of Montalcino, Tuscany, is a leader in making first-class wines of elegance and finesse.
They are known for significant innovations in wine production that position the winery as a reference point for the entire territory.
Founded in 1970, Altesino is considered a historical winery of Montalcino; and since 2002, the winery has been directed by the Gnudi Angelini family. They own eighty hectares (198 acres) of land, forty-four of which are property vineyards of mainly sangiovese, all cultivated with full respect of the environment and the traditions of the territory.
Located in five different subzones, each cultivated area has a unique mix of soil, altitude, and sun exposure. This diversity guarantees an excellent quality of production, regardless of seasonal weather patterns.
In 1975, the winery became the first Montalcino estate to introduce the concept of cru wines, made from a special selection of grapes from a single vineyard. Its Brunello Montosoli, named after the prestigious Montosoli vineyard, was the first of these wines and is still considered among the region’s finest.
Finally, in 1977 they produced the first grappa of the winery and, incidentally, the first grappa of the Montalcino territory. The winery’s outlook combines an essential respect for and trust in tradition with a forward-looking perspective, resulting in wines that retain the unique and high quality reputation of Brunello.
