Maremma: experience the Cultural Heritage in Southern Tuscany

Maremma is located in the southern part of Tuscany and was once the heartland of the Etruscans. It stretches along the Southern Tuscan coast and inland to the towns which the area’s first inhabitants carved out of the tuff stone. This land has such a fascinating history: the numerous Etruscan, and later Roman, settlements have been abandoned in the Middle Ages, and the swampy land became malaria-ridden and impossible to cultivate.

The draining of this territory began in the 18th century but was only completed about 60 years ago. This makes the area remain rather wild and undiscovered. The landscape is primarily agricultural and the only large city for miles around is Grosseto. For many years, there haven’t been any vineyards in this area, and even today only a few wine cellars are open, making it the perfect place for serious wine lovers.

  • Day 1: Morning

Private Guided Winery Tour at Fattoria Le Pupille

The heart of the 420-hectare property is located around the town of Pereta, where a 5-hectare vineyard produces the winery’s legendary wine, Saffredi.

About 30 years ago, Elisabetta Geppetti set out to achieve her winemaking dreams. Thanks to her entrepreneurial skills, she has built one of the most important wineries in Tuscany, applying a progressive approach: she first planted Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by the traditional Sangiovese, and then she updated the winemaking techniques practiced in her property.

Today, her most important label is “Morellino di Scansano” and Elisabetta is called the “Lady of Morellino”, appointed to be the ambassador of Maremma’s wines.

Experience the charm and elegance of Fattoria Le Pupille. This tour and tasting experience offers visitors the chance to discover the beauty and innovation of the Maremma region and the Supertuscan wines.

The estate of Ammiraglia is a place of unquestionable natural beauty, captivating and impeccable, set in a territory of great potential for the production of high quality wines.
